Letting Go

Letting Go

These two simple words have profound meaning, reaching into every corner of our lives.

Why Let Go?

Our inner attachments color our world,
shaping the lens through which we see
and experience everything around us.

“We see the world, not as it is, but as we are──or, as we are conditioned to see it.”
―Steven Covey

When we let go of guilt, we discover innocence.
And in releasing negative feelings, we must also
learn to embrace the positive ones.

The Problem: Our Attachments

Our attachments are the primary source of our suffering. We often fixate on what we’ve repressed—those thoughts, feelings, and desires buried in our unconscious mind. These suppressed emotions seek outlets, using daily events as triggers to release themselves.

Consider:

– The world reflects back how we see ourselves
– This includes the parts of ourselves we’ve unconsciously buried
– Our mind employs mechanisms like denial and projection to keep feelings repressed

The Goal: Release

Through letting go, we release these attachments. This journey of release teaches us that:
– Observing our feelings, rather than our thoughts, accelerates self-awareness
– Our thoughts are categorized by the emotions attached to them
– When we release a feeling, we free ourselves from all its associated thoughts

The Process:

1. Practice radical authenticity: Tell the complete truth to ourselves and others
2. Focus on feelings: They’re better guides than thoughts for increasing self-awareness
3. Reframe the past: Create new contexts and meanings that allow us to release old patterns
